Pysanky Designs

Egg Types
Pysanky are written on all different size eggs from small quail eggs to large ostrich eggs. The process is the same no matter the type of egg. I write most of my designs on large chicken eggs or goose eggs. Duck eggs have an outer membrane that gives a softer look to the finished design.
Traditional Designs
Traditional pysanky use design elements and colors that have been used for hundreds of years. Originally, pysanky were written to honor pagan gods. When Christianity made its way to Eastern Europe, the designs were adapted to the Christian canons.
Most of my traditional designs are written for the Easter Season.
Contemporary Designs
In the 20th century, more colors were added to the available dye options. There’s dozens of colors available from hot pinks, brilliant blues and greens, vibrant yellows and purples. Designs and patterns have been altered and added. Artists have given their designs a personal style.
Pysanky are written for all holidays and occasions. They make beautiful Christmas ornaments and gifts. I also write pysanky for Halloween and Hannukah.
Custom Designs
I have started offering custom designs – for all sorts of occasions. I write eggs for wedding gifts, Mother’s Day, to celebrate the birth of a baby, and to commemorate a work anniversary.
Custom eggs make great Christmas ornaments too.
