About me

Thank you for visiting my site! I have loved creative activities for as long as I can remember. Drawing, painting, crafts – they all interest me. When a church friend taught a few of us this ancient art, I was hooked. That was over 3 decades and hundreds of eggs ago.
Being a pysanky artist (pysankarka) connects me to women across time. Pysanky – pisanki in Polish – is a centuries old tradition. The skill is passes from person to person. Originally, only women made Pysanka. In the pagan religion men and children were not allowed to write pysanka. Pre-Christianity, the eggs were created to honor pagan gods and to bring good fortune to the home. Families had their own secret recipes for dyes, which were passed mother to daughter. Fast forward to today, and you will find many men who are avid pysanky artists. And many people I have met learned the craft as young children.
The folk art of egg decorating exists in much of Eastern Europe. Pysanky, wax resist dying of raw eggs, is one type of egg decoration. My mother’s family comes from Poland and Hungary, which have their own egg dying traditions. So, while my heritage is not Ukrainian, there is a connection to my ancestors.
In the years since falling in love with this craft, I have been teaching the art to others as well as selling completed eggs. It’s a joyful pursuit that combines elements of faith, friendship and creativity.
